Democracies in the world share a vision of the day when electronic governance will become reality. Electronic governance, more commonly referred to as e-Governance, is about the use of information technology to raise the quality of the services governments deliver to citizens and businesses. e-Governance greatly improves efficiency and productivity. It is much more than just an electronic platform, it is a way of life where the Government, businesses and the citizens interact together without the hassle of having to present oneself at specific counters or stand in queues.
Mauritius has a vision of becoming the Cyber Island of the world and e-Governance is a corner stone towards achieving that objective. We at Bhumishq Teleserve Ltd (Bhutel) believe in the power of Information and Communication Technology to engineer processes concerning government by using the internet and other electronic media which introduce more transparency for citizens and companies and optimize exchange of data.
Bhutel is the prime local partner in an international consortium that has been awarded the contract for the Coming Soon project initiated by the Ministry of Housing and Lands. This project involves the creation of a cadastre for the island of Mauritius which will include a valuation component for residential and commercial properties. The consortium is headed by Infoterra Ltd of the United Kingdom.
In ensuring the delivery of quality projects, Bhutel has entered into strategic alliances with companies in South Africa and India.
Through select projects in the public sector Bhutel hopes to reinforce the connection between public officials and communities thereby leading to a stronger, more accountable and inclusive democracy. The vision of Bhutel is to go regional and implement similar e-Governance projects in the African Continent. Bhutel aims to build on the Mauritian experience to make a transfer of knowledge and technology to Africa.
